To YB Khairy Jamaluddin and FAM – HRH Brigadier General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, The Crown Prince of Johor
I’m very honest, neutral and I prefer to keep quiet. But sometimes it comes to a point that I have to voice my honest opinion. There’s one small issue that has been politicized.
Lately, Malaysia has organized a match with Tottenham Hotspur. I have a question. As the Youth and Sports Minister and as a politician, you are responsible to serve the people. Apart from this, your task is also to hold the office with utmost dedication and integrity. I would also like to take this opportunity to say congratulations and a job well done for your work and efforts for sports in Malaysia.
You know that this match does not benefit the National Team, but I’m surprised that you say it does and you stand alongside the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). This match serves one purpose and one purpose only – the proceeds of this match go to the organizers responsible to bring the team to Malaysia and FAM. But what benefit does it bring the National Team for the World Cup Qualifiers?
You, myself and the Malaysians know that it does not. FAM claims to use this match as preparation for the World Cup Qualifiers. First of all it does not help us with the World Ranking. Secondly, it doesn’t prepare our local players as 5 foreign players have been picked to play. We have to give more emphasis to the FIFA Match Dates as it can bring more benefit to our performance and ranking.
My humble advice and opinion to you, YB Khairy is to stand with the Malaysian football fans and to stand for what is right. Being a leader of tomorrow, the people should know that as their leader, you should stand for what is right. You should serve them by voicing their concerns and dissatisfaction towards FAM, which has been running Malaysian Football poorly for the last 30 years. To move forward for the sake of football in the county, we should concentrate more on the National Team’s performance and ranking. Not forgetting the fairly distributed broadcasting rights to all the participating teams in Malaysia.
I know you will always have an answer, for example; you once mentioned that Bukit Jalil Is the National Stadium and you cannot use cow grass because as the National Stadium, you needed something with more quality. Today however, you have commissioned Johor FA’s field consultant to replace the current turf with cow grass and maintain it as how we have done in Larkin.
You are a good, determined, and dedicated minister for the future, but I suggest you start doing what’s right for the sport first and at the same time stand up to FAM if they’re doing something wrong so that the people will always remember that you stand for the right thing, full of integrity and this may help you in your future political endeavors.
Lastly regarding this so called “circus match”, I don’t urge you to stop it. But I urge you to be sure that this is the last time because we should start doing things that are beneficial to national football and not benefitting those serving in FAM. You have done well in sports but you also need to help the football in this country. Do not allow football to be politicized as how this country has been politicized on various issues lately.
I’m voicing my opinion not to be the President of FAM. I will never ever be the President of FAM. I’m speaking out for the love of this beautiful game. Football should be run with utmost integrity and transparency which in turn would benefit all the teams participating in Malaysia. With this, there will be another reason for football lovers in this country to be proud of.
My mere humble opinion, from the most hated man in Malaysian Football.
HRH Brigadier General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Crown Prince Of Johor
