The elevated expressway has been met with criticism, particularly from residents whose properties will be seized and who claim they will be subjected to noise pollution and traffic bottlenecks.

MCA  today demanded for the controversial Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project to be withdrawn, claiming that Selangor’s elected representatives misled the public.

In singling out  DAP’s Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran and Damansara Utama assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin, MCA Petaling Jaya Utara Youth chief Andy Lee Vee Meng alleged that the duo never told the public that the Selangor exco was the main approving authority which gave the green light to the construction of the expressway and its proposed alignment by Kidex Sdn Bhd in 2012.

“It was the Selangor state exco that published a gazette under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, freezing 3,784 land lots within 100m of the expressway’s proposed corridor from being traded on July 18, 2013,” said Lee, in a Press statement this morning.

He urged DAP not to blame Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for the approval.

Khalid alone cannot legally approve Kidex, Lee said, adding that Rajiv and Yeo were in the state exco.

He said that it was “unbelievable” that the two were not aware of the approval given to Kidex at the time and went on to claim that the duo did not consult the local residents before approving Kidex.

Lee also urged the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to reject Kidex and exclude the project from the Petaling Jaya Local Plan.

The 26.1km expressway will connect Kinrara in Puchong and Damansara. It is aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on the existing Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (LDP) highway and reduce travelling time.

The elevated expressway has been met with criticism, particularly from residents whose properties will be seized and who claim they will be subjected to noise pollution and traffic bottlenecks.
