Yang Berhormat Senator Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil is a very prominent politician Malaysia.
She is currently a Senator appointed by the prime minister and the chief of the Wanita Umno wing. Shahrizat was the former Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and was the Member of Parliament of Lembah Pantai which she sensationally lost to Nurul Izzah Anwar in 2008. Lembah Pantai was a stronghold of Umno which Shahrizat held for 13 years before the defeat. However, despite losing in the 2008 General Election, she was appointed into the cabinet by the prime minister.
A lawyer in profession, Shahrizat is married to Datuk Seri Dr. Mohamad Salleh Ismail with whom she has three children. She came under the spotlight in 2011 when her husband and children were mired in controversy for allegedly misusing public funds and a soft loan of RM250million in the still on-going National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal. The negative spotlight caused her to step down from her ministerial post. She was however cleared off any involvement with the NFC as it was managed b her husband. Since then, she has been actively campaigning for a ‘comeback’ and is still very much in the spotlight after winning the party elections to maintain her post as the Umno Wanita chief.
