One of the names who have often been associated with Datuk Ibrahim Ali is one Datuk Zahrain Mohamad Hasim. The former Bayan Baru MP is most famous for being the few who spoke up against the DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng when he was still with PKR.

Zahrain was formerly the Penang PKR chief who sensationally left Pakatan Rakyat to become a BN-friendly independent. His support for BN eventually paid off when he was reported to be appointed as the next Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia.

Zahrain was among those who left Pakatan after winning in 2008 through the opposition ticket. In 2010, he called Lim a ‘dictator’ and eventually left the coalition. He would then form the Konsensus Bebas as a platform for former opposition lawmakers who want to support BN.

What makes Zahrain such a strong figure is his ability to ‘remain independent’ and continuously appearing in national television which is said to be controlled by BN to criticize the opposition as an ‘insider’. He is known to have a personal agenda against opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim whom he was once very close to.
Zahrain did not contest in 2013, reportedly paving way for his ambassador role with the government.
