A day before folks in Bukit Gelugor cast their votes for the parliamentary seat by-election, Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) candidate Datuk Huan Cheng Guan admits it is an uphill task to secure a win.
Huan is up against favourite DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh Deo and Independents Muhamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Sathar as well as Abu Backer Sideck Md Zan.
However, Huan expressed hope that he would not lose his deposit.
“Don’t let me lose badly. I’m happy if I can get 12% of the votes,” he said today.
Meanwhile, controversial Abu Backer said if he were to lose the by-election, he would just treat the deposit as a donation in the form of a tithe (zakat).
“If I lose, it would be a lost for Bukit Gelugor because the people there won’t give me a chance to serve them.”
Muhamed Nabi Bux, however, is confident that he would not lose his deposit.
Basing his confidence on his campaign trail thus far, Muhamed Nabi Bux said he believed the Malay Muslims in the area were on his side.
“I don’t think I will lose my deposit. I know the Malay Muslims here will vote for me.
“If I come in second, I have no plans yet as to what comes next,” he said.
Earlier, DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh Deo expressed his confidence that he would be able to retain his late father’s seat. However he hopes for a bigger majority.
“I am confident, but not over confident. We are just worried of a low voter turnout,” he said.
