14 August – In a recent report, it was rumoured that some members of the party had tried to reinstate party elections by putting forth motions. The party elections was supposed to be held next year but Najib had recently announced that it will be postponed. If the motions to reinstate the elections are accepted, it means that the president could be challenged and defeated via the standard process. In other reports, it was said that some members are tabling motions for stern action to be taken against Najib.
13 August – Anina Saaduddin, a Wanita Umno member who came under the spotlight recently for being overly vocal about prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s situation in Umno said that more than 80% of Umno members have lost confidence in their president.
This will not go down well with many of the members as she seems to be speaking based on her perception. She shot to fame after a highly critical speech in Langkawi against Najib and in her latest statement, Anina said that 10 out of 12 Umno members would give negative answers about Najib.
Najib recently said that he had the backing of 3 million Umno members referring to a ballpark figure of the total membership in the largest party in the country. To this, she said that Najib must have been ‘hallucinating’. She even went on to say that Najib should see a doctor as he does not know what he is saying or doing anymore.
It was her Langkawi speech during the annual meeting there that took people by surprise. Using the word ‘Kencing’ which literally means ‘urinating’ but is a figure of speech for ‘lie’ or ‘cheat’, she said that Najib had ‘kencing 3 juta ahli Umno’. The speech was recorded on video and went viral almost immediately after that.
She said that Najib had postponed the party elections which showed that he was not confident of the support from the party. Is he really losing the support from the members or would Anina come under fire for her public outcry? Stay tuned.
