KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — The Umno Youth movement will submit all the motions forwarded at all divisional youth delegates meeting to the party president after the supreme council meeting scheduled on September 9.
Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin said, prior to that, the movement would ask the Umno Youth management to scrutinise each motion received to understand the situation at the grassroots more indepth.
“We will take up the issues and views from youths at the grassroots level so that action is taken on their concern and restlessness.
“The examples of issues are concerning political donations, the people’s perceptions, investigation on the political fund donation and 1Malaysia Development Berhad, which are not only discussed by Umno youths, but also those youths outside,” he said.
Khairy, who was met by reporters after chairing an Umno Youth exco meeting here, today said, to date, 182 Umno Youth divisions had met while nine more would do so this weekend.
He said the Umno Youth movement, which represented the voice of the young and the bridge connecting Umno and young voters, must play a role to deliver the perceptions and perspectives of the young to the leadership.
“None of the motions will be screened…(Umno Youth) will deliver what we hear from the youths, especially from outside the party, so the leadership can do what is apt to bring back their confidence in the party,” he said.
Meanwhile, Khairy said the movement would not make any decision at the moment on the motion that the party elections be continued next year.
“Currently, we are still tied with the decision to postpone the party elections for 18 months, but seeing there is a view by the grassroots, we will complete the delegates meeting, then only we will see how far the view is held by the youths at the grassroots,” he said.
On June 26, the Umno Supreme Council decided that the party elections scheduled next year would be postponed for 18 months to give priority to the party’s service to the people and efforts to strengthen the party. — Bernama
